Franck Kolczak is a solutions marketer in charge of Business Development for the defense market within the Aerospace, Defense, & Marine business unit of TE Connectivity. Franck holds a BS in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from the Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Arts et Metiers and an MS in Aerospace and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has developed a wide range of experience, focused on electric systems and interconnectivity applications, over the last 25 years in various technical and business development functions. In addition to working with internal TE teams and customers on specific applications, he participates in industry leading standards and contributes to framing future product and technology roadmaps.

How did you get involved and interested in engineering?

July 20, 1969 was the day man first stepped on the moon. It has remained for me a source of inspiration and constant questioning about what else is possible.

Which connectivity challenges are you working to solve?

I am currently coordinating our product teams' efforts to implement the best solutions for high bandwidth communication in rugged environments. This involves numerous developments in the electrical, optical and interconnect terminations fields.

What changes do you expect to see in your industry over the next 5 years?

The trends in the defense industry are very clear. We are rapidly transitioning from a configuration where a large number of systems operate more or less independently to perform their respective missions to an environment where information is shared and where many systems will be semi or fully autonomous. This will drive an accelerated need to exchange and to process large amounts of information. On the power side, the defense applications in the various vehicles and weapons will follow the trend of automotive and commercial aviation towards more electrification.

When you're not working, what is a favorite hobby or pastime you enjoy?

I enjoy travelling, discovering new places and interacting with people from a different background.
